World Tour Videos

Follow us:
In October 2011, we (Ronny and Sarah) have embarked on a one year journey, visiting Fair Trade producers in 12 different countries in:

Asia (October 2011-April 2012)
Latin America (April 2012-July 2012)
Africa (August 2012-October 2012)

YOU CAN TRAVEL WITH US by following our adventures through our short “world tour videos”. These are slightly different from the “pro” videos: they are filmed with a smaller and handier camera, and they often adress one particular topic or product.

Fair Trade World Tour: India (E.M.A.)

Fair Trade World Tour: India (E.M.A.)

Our journey for fair trade continues and we are now flying to Kolkata, India’s second largest city. Here we will be meeting Equitable Marketing Association (E.M.A.) and stay with them for 7 days. We were expecting fumes, traffic jams and never-stopping-ear-blasting-horns since we heard E.M.A. was located in Kolkata, but instead we found luxurious gardens, ponds packed with all sorts of fishes and coconut palmtrees. E.M.A.’s development center, which is their production facilities, is really located 40 Km from the city in a small and quiet village called Uttarbharg. The organization provides work to approximately 100 locals focusing on underprivileged, marginalized, minority groups, widows and the physically challenged. The story of the organization is too long to be told here, but can be found on their website. We really believe a picture is worth a thousand words, so we will let the video speak for itself. It is time to step into E.M.A.’s musical instrument division and meet the producers. target=”_blank”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAOYFydkpMI Another particularity of EMA is that they focus on helping disadvantage minorities. For instance, their candle division is entirely operated by handicapped people. Some are deaf and dumb, others are just physically challenged. Watch this second fair trade video and meet this extraordinary working division. target=”_blank”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdcrZjvSCoI Read More »

Fair Trade World Tour: India (Pushpanjali)

Fair Trade World Tour: India (Pushpanjali)

On the 10th of October we embarked on a journey for fair trade. We will be travelling the world and meeting Fair Trade Organizations (FTO’s) on the road. More than ever our purpose is to establish a connection between consumers and artisans/farmers who build the products. target=”_blank”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr-QM5xmJds Our first encounter was Pushpanjali, a FTO located in Agra. Agra  is internationaly known because it is the city of the Taj Mahal.  Every day, thousands of tourists come to Agra see the Taj and move on to their next destination. Most of them leave with the impression of Agra being a beautiful city. What they don’t see is that people live in harsh conditions in neighborhoods surronding the wonderful Taj. Pushpanjali is dedicated to improving the lives and working conditions of marginalized artisans who live in these areas. Here is a video about our first visit to a cluster of soapstone producers. target=”_blank”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crbadF10EFI Pushpanjali not only plays an important role in creating better working conditions for artisans of Agra, it also provides support to the community through different social programs such as the medical camps and computer litteracy centers. This video is about the medical camps, check it out to see how hundreds of people benefit every months from free medical care, thanks to Pushpanjali and thanks to fair trade. target=”_blank”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APgpydf6mrU Our journey led us to Saharanpur, 8 hours north of Agra to meet Aslam and the group of wood carvers he’s managing. EKTA Handicraft Society produces wood products for Pushpanjali Fair Trade. These products are then exported to many countries. Aslam and his family generously welcomed Fair Trade Connection to their house and offered us breakfast and lunch. We felt very priviledged to spend the day with them and discover the daily routine of the wood carvers of Saharanpur. target=”_blank”>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPkCyvQzgDU More to come, if you like what you see, please subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Around the world to meet fairtrade producers

Around the world to meet fairtrade producers

Did you ever wonder what good it makes to buy fairtrade products? Where does the money go anyway? How does it help poor farmers and artisans? We decided to go find out. Not that we doubt that fairtrade helps marginalized producers lift themselves out of poverty, that we have already seen, but to share a bit of their lives with you. We want to take you on a journey, introduce you to the farmer who grew the mango you are eating or maybe the lady who picked up the coton your T-shirt is made of. They live in India, Madagascar or maybe Costa Rica, their name is Ranvir, Ana or Salah. They have dreams, worries and questions just like us. Their lives is somehow connected to ours … through the products they make. Starting in October, my wife and I are going to travel around the world to meet these fairtrade producers. And the good news is … you are coming with us! We will be making tons of videos about the cooperatives we visit. You will visit their fields and production units, hear what the workers have to say and how fairtrade affects their lives. So far we know that India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Kenya and Madagascar are part of the plan, but who knows what tommorow might bring? So if you want to travel along with us, don’t wait any longer. Get your ticket now by subscribing to our YouTube channel. For those of you who love photos, you can also receive our best shots via our Twitter account. Only Fair Trade Connection will bring you that close to the reality of the producers! Read More »
